Synopsis
Just One Look is a novel by Mary Alice Monroe about a woman who returns to her hometown on the Chesapeake Bay after a traumatic event. She finds solace and healing in the arms of a local fisherman, but their relationship is threatened by the secrets she is keeping.
Claire Whitfield is a successful businesswoman who has it all - a great job, a beautiful home, and a loving family. But when her husband dies suddenly, her world falls apart. Claire is devastated and lost, and she doesn't know how she will go on without him.
In a desperate attempt to escape her grief, Claire decides to return to her hometown of Honeymoon Harbor, Maryland. She hasn't been home in years, but she hopes that the familiar surroundings will help her to heal.
When Claire arrives in Honeymoon Harbor, she is greeted by her childhood friend, Jake. Jake is a local fisherman who has always had a crush on Claire. He is happy to see her again, and he offers to help her in any way he can.
Claire and Jake spend a lot of time together, and they soon fall in love. Jake is patient and understanding, and he helps Claire to heal from her grief. Claire is drawn to Jake's strength and kindness, and she finds herself falling in love with him more and more each day.
But Claire is keeping a secret from Jake. She is afraid to tell him about the car accident that killed her husband. She knows that Jake will blame her, and she doesn't want to lose him.
As Claire and Jake's relationship grows stronger, Claire knows that she can't keep her secret forever. She decides to tell Jake the truth, and she is relieved when he doesn't blame her.
Claire and Jake are finally able to be together without secrets, and their relationship is stronger than ever before. They are both able to heal from their past traumas, and they find love and happiness in each other.
Review
Just One Look is a beautifully written and moving novel about love, loss, and redemption. Mary Alice Monroe has a gift for creating characters that are both relatable and unforgettable. Claire and Jake are two such characters, and their journey will stay with me long after I finish reading the book.
Monroe's writing is lyrical and evocative, and she brings the Chesapeake Bay to life with her vivid descriptions. I could almost smell the salt air and feel the sun on my skin as I read about Claire and Jake's adventures.
Just One Look is a must-read for fans of women's fiction, romance, and love stories. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
